⏩ WORLD ENVIRONMENT DAY JUNE 5TH ⏪

World Environment Day is observed on June 5th every year to raise awareness and encourage global action to protect the environment. It is one of the principal vehicles through which the United Nations (UN) stimulates worldwide awareness of environmental issues and promotes environmental sustainability.

World Environment Day was established by the United Nations General Assembly in 1972, during the opening of the Stockholm Conference on the Human Environment. The conference marked the first global gathering focused on environmental issues, and World Environment Day was created to commemorate this event and encourage environmental action.

Each year, World Environment Day has a specific theme that highlights a pressing environmental concern. The theme serves to focus global attention and inspire action on critical environmental challenges. The theme is chosen by the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) based on current environmental issues and trends.

World Environment Day is celebrated in various ways worldwide, including tree planting initiatives, community clean-ups, environmental awareness campaigns, educational programs, and policy advocacy. Governments, organisations, communities, and individuals participate in activities that promote sustainable practices and address environmental issues at the local, national, and global levels.

The day serves as a reminder of the importance of environmental stewardship and encourages individuals and societies to take responsibility for their environmental impact. It calls for sustainable development practices, conservation of natural resources, protection of biodiversity, mitigation of climate change, and the promotion of a healthy and sustainable environment for present and future generations.

World Environment Day provides an opportunity for people to come together, share knowledge, and collaborate on solutions to environmental challenges. It aims to mobilise individuals, communities, and governments to take concrete actions that can make a positive difference in the world.
